NEW
DELHI, (IPR): At the India Today Conclave 2025, Union Minister
Kiren Rijiju lauded Sikkim’s exceptional economic growth and environmental
stewardship, calling it a model for other States to follow. Sharing the stage
with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, Union Minister Rijiju highlighted
that Sikkim has the highest per capita income in India, surpassing Delhi,
Chandigarh, and Goa.
He
further emphasized that Sikkim’s success lies in its ability to balance
economic development with environmental conservation, praising the State’s
governance under Chief Minister Mr Golay. “This is why I appreciate the Sikkim
Model—the Chief Minister has not only been a kind-hearted leader but also a
progressive one,” he said.
Union
Minister Rijiju noted that Sikkim’s per capita income is the highest in the
country, a testament to the State’s strong governance, targeted investments,

Arunachal Pradesh have vast potential, they must follow Sikkim’s example by
harnessing resources without harming the environment. His remarks reinforced
Sikkim’s position as a leader in sustainable development, demonstrating that
economic prosperity does not have to come at the cost of nature.
As
the Chief Minister detailed the State’s flagship programs, ‘Mero Rukh Mero Santati’
and ‘Sishu Samriddhi Yojana’, the audience responded with thunderous applause,
appreciating Sikkim’s pioneering efforts in environment conservation and child
welfare.
During
the discussion, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju stressed the importance of inter-State
learning, encouraging other Northeastern States to take inspiration from
Sikkim. He also acknowledged that Sikkim could adopt best practices from other
States to further enhance its development model.
