SILIGURI,: A new political movement is brewing in the hills. The political initiative is expected to be announced on December 22 under the leadership of Hamro Party chief Ajoy Edwards.
Veteran leaders from various political backgrounds are expected to join Edwards in this move, which is being seen as a response to growing frustrations with the current political landscape.
A closed-door meeting held at a hotel in Bagdogra on Friday lasted for several hours to finalize the announcement date. Key attendees included GNLF veteran Mahendra Chhetri, former TMC Hill general secretary N.B. Khawas and leaders from the Hills, Terai and Dooars.
Edwards said that on December 22, a new revolution will start in hills. He did not want to disclose the exact venue but said thousands of people will join the new force and three venues have been selected but not yet finalized.
He said, "Enough is enough now people want revolution and we are ready for it, let's meet on 22nd December where the picture will be clear. Frustrated with the dictatorship of the ruling state and central government leaders have shown their interest to join our force."
When asked about the existence of Hamro Party and the flag he replied, "Wait and watch on 22nd December everything will be clear."
N.B. Khawas, who recently quit the Trinamool Congress, expressed discontent over the party’s preference for local hill parties over its own in spearheading developmental initiatives.
