PAKYONG, : All nightclubs and pubs in Sikkim will now be allowed to operate only until 11 pm. Any establishment found running beyond this time will face license cancellation, and the responsible police officer will face suspension or termination of, Chief Minister P.S. Golay said today.
Speaking at the State-level Gurung Tamu Lochar Utsav 2024, the Chief Minister highlighted the rising number of accidents around Gangtok, some of which involve individuals treated at government expense.
“People stay out late at discos and pubs and drive early in the morning which leads to accidents. From now on, we will strictly enforce the rules. No pubs or discos will be allowed to remain open past 11 pm. These establishments also cause noise disturbances, inconveniencing nearby residents,” he said.
The Chief Minister further stated, “If any pub or disco is found operating after 11 PM, we will revoke their license. Additionally, the police officer responsible for the area will face suspension or termination. This decision has been made in the interest of public welfare.”
