GANGTOK,: PNG School held a Centenary theme run on Friday morning to kick-start its celebration of 100 years in service.
The Centenary run was flagged-off from the Palace campus here which witnessed participation from PNGites Alumni members, former teachers and well-wishers, informs a press release. The run was held in four categories – preparatory, middle, secondary, and open for staff and alumni.
Chogyal Chempo and Prince Palden Gurmit Namgyal flagged-off the run in presence of special guests and school principal Jem Pundi Targain.
As per the history of PNG School, the then Chogyal of Sikkim Tashi Namgyal had requested Mary Hepburn Scott to initiate this esteemed institution in memory of Crown Prince Paljor Namgyal.
Hence, to acknowledge that historical happening, the Palace was the chosen arena for the event today, the release informs.
Every participant wore an official T-Shirt, which is specifically prepared for this Centenary Celebration. The environment, ambiance, happiness and enthusiasm of everyone was just outstanding, the release states.
The Centenary run started from Palace gate and covered the route up to MG Marg before concluding at PNG School near Paljor Stadium.
The winners in different categories were Pranjua Pradhan (secondary), Rejal Sherpa (middle) and Heezimla Lepcha (preparatory).
The trophies, medals and certificates were presented to the winners by the chief guest and special guests.
