RANGPO, :
To improve public sanitation and ensure better hygiene standards, the Rangpo
Nagar Panchayat has introduced stringent penalties for violations under Solid
Waste Management Rules, 2016 and local by-laws.
In
a recent public notice, the Municipal Executive Officer outlined fines for
specific offenses, including Rs. 500 for littering on roads and open
defecation, Rs. 200 for spitting and open urination in public spaces and Rs.
500 for spreading faecal sludge.
These
rules are intended to address the ongoing challenges of public hygiene and
environmental safety.
By
penalizing such actions, the panchayat hopes to discourage improper disposal
practices and encourage residents and visitors alike to adopt more sanitary
habits. Open defecation and urination are particularly targeted due to the
health risks and environmental pollution they cause.
Additionally,
authorities are cracking down on faecal sludge disposal in public spaces, as it
poses significant health risks. To support this initiative, the Nagar Panchayat
has called upon the community to participate actively by using designated
sanitation facilities and reporting violations when witnessed.
