RK Waling takes charge as Temi Tea Board chairman

GANGTOK, : Newly appointed Temi Tea Board chairman RK Waling on Thursday took charge of his office at Temi Tea Garden office in South Sikkim. He was warmly welcomed by Temi Tea Garden managing director Radha Pradhan, officials, local panchayat and tea garden workers.

Speaking with reporters, the new Temi Tea Board chairman expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister PS Golay for appointing him at the prestigious post.

“Due to the Chief Minister’s blessings I have got the opportunity to serve as the Tea Tea Board chairman and I am grateful to him. We have got the opportunity to serve the people as per his vision,” said Waling. He committed to fulfil his responsibility with sincerity and maintain the legacy and progress of Temi Tea Garden, a State government undertaking.

Waling urged the Temi Tea Garden officials and workers to work collectively for upholding the prestige of Temi Tea Garden, and assured all possible efforts from his side.

An introduction session was also held at the Temi Tea Garden hall where the officials briefed the new chairman about the history, present status and other relevant details of the tea garden.

There are presently 411 permanent workers in Temi Tea Garden. The tea garden workers here receive a daily wage of Rs. 500, the highest for any tea garden worker in India.
