Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand makes 'Gaudwaj Sthapna Bharat Yatra' in Sikkim

GANGTOK, : Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Ji Maharaj established and unfurled the 'Gaudwaj' here at the premises of Thakurbari, Gangtok on Wednesday. He had reached Gangtok on Tuesday for a two-day spiritual visit as part of his national 'Gaudwaj Sthapna Bharat Yatra'.

Addressing the media, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Ji expressed his gratitude towards the State government for considering him as a State guest.

The religious guru mentioned that few States have been objecting to his nationwide tour. We are on a yatra to share our stand and not cause disturbances, we are aware that there would be some who do not agree with our stand but we can always hold dialogues and come to a solution, he said.

Swami Avimukteshwaranand is campaigning across the nation against cow slaughter and according ‘Mata’ (mother) status to the Indian cow. People must understand that we are advocating for the humped cow, the indigenous breed, as per our religious text and not for the foreign breed, he said.

“Since our nation’s independence, the Centre has been assured the majority Sanatanis of the country of extending a law with respect to honouring the cow which we claim to be a mother as per the religious books. However, the cow has been kept in the schedule of animals and is slaughtered for consumption and businesses. We demand that the indigenous cow be granted ‘Pratishtha’ with an amendment in the Constitution and also a stop on cow slaughter”, he expressed.

Hundreds of devotees had gathered at Thakurbari to take his blessings.
