GANGTOK, : Tribeny Rai, an award winning independent filmmaker from Sikkim, is
all set to direct her first Nepali feature film under her own Dalley Khorsani
Productions. Shooting of the movie, titled tentatively as ‘Just like a son’ is
scheduled to commence from January 6.
A simple
‘muhurat’ of the film was held at Tribeny’s residence in Nandok near Ranipool
on Friday.
Sikkim
Film Promotion Board (SFPB) chairperson Pooja Sharma was the chief guest on the
occasion. It was also attended by former Lok Sabha MP Nakul Das Rai, family
members, Nandok elders, and others.
Also
present was film producer Bishnu Geeta Rai along with the cast and crew
members.
“The film
is loosely based on the stories of the people I know, and revolves around the
theme of women and their stories. I have been working on the project from
2016-2018, and later our writer Kisley joined the project. I would like to
thank everyone who has been part of the project since the beginning. I hope we
will continue to work as a family,” expressed Tribeny.
The
director further informed that the film will be prominently shot in Nandok and Assam
Lingzey, and the shoot will take almost 45 days. The post production would take
at least a year, and we are hopeful that the film will be released in theatres
by the end of the year, she said.
Tribeny introduced
the cast and crew of the project, which include actors and technicians from
Sikkim, Darjeeling, Mumbai, etc. The film’s chief protagonists are Gaumaya Gurung
from Nepal, Shyamashree Sherpa and Lakpa Lepcha from Sikkim, and Rahul Mukhia
from Darjeeling.
In her
brief address, the SFPB chairperson expressed pride in Tribeny Rai for being
one of the most promising filmmakers from Sikkim.
“Tribeny’s
work is worth praising as she has won various international and national awards
in the past. She works with passion, enthusiasm and dedication and she came
back to her home State to promote films in Sikkim. Tribeny is an example of
women empowerment. I feel blessed to be part of the muhurat ceremony,” said
Sharma.
The SFPB
chairperson further thanked Tribeny’s family for always supporting their
daughter and stated that their support sets an example for other aspiring
filmmakers from Sikkim. She highlighted
the initiative of Chief Minister PS Golay and the State government to promote
the film industry in Sikkim via different schemes and subsidies.
