GANGTOK, : Sports and Youth Affairs
minister Raju Basnet attended the curtain raiser event for the 8th North East
Youth Festival 2025 set to take place in Gangtok from March 17 to 20. The
festival will see participation of over 1,500 individuals.
Speaking on the occasion,
minister Basnet said the festival is an excellent opportunity for Sikkim’s youth
to exchange culture and knowledge with participants from across the Northeast.
He highlighted Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage, scenic beauty and hospitality,
urging officials and staff to ensure a grand and memorable event.
Encouraging local talent, he
directed officials to facilitate opportunities for Sikkimese youth to excel in
both competitive and non-competitive events.
This is the second time Sikkim
is hosting NEYF after the successful 5th edition in 2017.
Organized by State Sports and
Youth Affairs department in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs
and Sports, the festival will feature competitions and exhibitions in art,
music, dance, literature and adventure sports.
The official mascot and logo,
symbolizing the festival’s theme “Empowered Youth, Empowered Region, My Bharat,
Viksit Bharat were unveiled during the event.
Sports & Youth Affairs secretary Y.D.Tamang called the festival a “true celebration
of the spirit, talent and culture of the Northeast.”
The festival’s opening ceremony
on March 17 will be attended by the Governor and the closing ceremony on March
20 will be attended by the Chief Minister.
