Soreng DC convenes monsoon preparedness meeting

SORENG,  (IPR): A meeting to discuss and review the district’s preparedness for the prevailing monsoon was held at the conference hall of Rurban Complex, RDD Office today.

Organized by District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the meeting was chaired by Yishey D. Yongda, DC, Soreng and chairperson, DDMA. Also present were zilla upadakshya C.B. Kami, Soreng ADC Dhiraj Subedi, 2nd IRBn (Pipalay) commandant A.K. Tamang, ADC (Dev) Gaayas Pega, SDM (HQ) D.R. Bista along with panchayats, HoDs and officers of line departments, police officers, representatives from NTPC, NHPC, DANs Energy, NGOs and other associations, SSB officials and AAPDA Mitras.

The DC underlined the objective of the meeting and reviewed the preparedness of all line-department. She stressed upon the need for coordination between the stakeholders in order to avert any unfavourable circumstances at any given time. She gave out directives to the Health Department with regard to awareness against water-borne diseases such dengue, typhoid especially at the lower belt and its precautionary measures, stocking up of required medicines against seasonal flu and snakebite wounds. She instructed the PHE department to ensure thorough inspection of water reservoirs against contamination.

Further, she urged to continue the annual cleanliness drive of water reservoirs and tanks throughout the district. She also focused on the need to address mental health issues and to encourage people to seek professional assistance. She highlighted on the capacity building of the newly-recruited employees under Land Revenue and Disaster Management department as additional manpower for disaster response team. The department of Roads & Bridges was instructed for maintenance of roads and identification of other alternative routes for easy and accessible commute of supplies and emergency personnel. The Transport department were asked to regulate the traffic and the movement of vehicles especially during emergencies. Likewise, she directed against illegal dumping of muds that can pose as a threat of mud-sliding in rather vulnerable areas.

During the meeting, the DC also addressed on the alarming issue of declining fertility-rate in the district and the necessity to generate awareness on the issue. Likewise, the DC was appraised about various concerns and issues related to monsoon. Additionally besides the meeting agenda, the DC also informed the House on the PM Gatishakti programme and asked HoDs and officers present to familiarise themselves on the portal, which aims to develop a multi-modal network with comprehensive support for planning, financing, innovation, and technology.
