GANGTOK, : SRM University Sikkim today inaugurated
an audio-visual studio dedicated to the students of the Department of
Journalism & Mass Communication as well as their Centre for Online
Education. The studio has state-of-the-art infrastructure, expertly curated
spaces, efficient high-end equipment, Chroma background, and editing setup
among others to provide an environment conducive to redefining media production
and learning, the university said in a press release.
The studio was inaugurated by Dr. Manoj
Kumar Das, head in-charge of Department of Mass Communication in the presence
of journalists and editors from the leading media houses of Sikkim.
Vice-chancellor Prof. Ch. Satish Kumar,
in his address, informed that the audio-visual studio would bring a new
dimension to a teaching-learning system where the vacuum of the teacher's
absence shall be filled by the high-quality and efficient lectures recorded by
the faculty members through this studio. “Moreover, keeping in mind the new
education policy, the studio shall cater to the skill development aspects among
many students who share a passion for this field,” he said. “The studio shall
open doors for various innovations. The students can now dare to imagine beyond
the world in their production-based projects.”
Prof. Satish mentioned that
infrastructure such as this shall bring revolution and high-end quality in
online education which the university is endeavouring.
Chief guest Dr. Manoj Kumar Das outlined
the importance of embracing innovations, especially in media studies. “Mass
Communication is no longer an emerging field. It has arrived and established
itself. But then, as technology is advancing at a very fast pace, media courses
of the future must be regularly updated to reflect the evolution of modern
technology, such as VFX and AI, and keep up with the pace of advancement,” he
said.
The special guests comprising the
editors of leading newspapers of Sikkim, station heads of Doordarshan, radio
personalities, senior journalists and founders of convergent media of Sikkim as
well as the senior journalists of Sikkim congratulated the university for the
milestone achievement.
They suggested that the students should
explore the equipment and its peripherals as much as possible to strengthen
their imagination and their skills to greater heights. They also suggested
collaboration with the university through various activities in the future
while utilizing this state-of-the-art facility.
