GANGTOK,: Tourism minister T.T. Bhutia on Wednesday conducted an official visit to Sikkim Guest House at Salt Lake and Sikkim House at Middleton Street in Kolkata during his return journey to Sikkim after attending the ongoing Hornbill Festival in Nagaland.
The minister was accompanied by Tourism principal secretary C.S. Rao, and principal chief engineer Neeraj Pradhan. The visit aimed to assess the status and condition of the guest houses.
During his visit, Bhutia interacted with employees at both locations to understand their working environment and challenges. He also met with patients from Sikkim who are currently staying at these accommodations while undergoing medical treatment at various hospitals in Kolkata. Additionally, he sought feedback from guests on the facilities and services provided by the Tourism department.
Expressing satisfaction with the maintenance of the Sikkim House at Middleton Street, the minister praised the efforts of the staff. However, he emphasized the need for immediate renovation of the Salt Lake Guest House, instructing the department to address the matter as a priority.
The Government of Sikkim maintains residential properties like the Sikkim Guest House and Sikkim Houses in major cities across India. These facilities, managed by the Tourism department, aim to provide convenience and support to the people of Sikkim traveling for official, educational or medical purposes.
