GANGTOK, : In a landmark judgment reinforcing Sikkim Police’s zero-tolerance
policy against drug trafficking, the Special Court (SADA), Gangtok, on March
20, convicted the accused in Sadar PS Case No. 163/2021 and sentenced him to 10
years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 9(1)(c) of the Sikkim Anti Drugs
Act (SADA), 2006.
A
press release from Gangtok district police, the case involved the seizure of
722 loose capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon Plus (Tramadol)—a banned psychotropic
substance—found in possession of the accused. The swift response and legally
sound procedures adopted by Sadar Police led to a strong investigation and
successful prosecution.
The
investigation was led by SI Tsheda D. Bhutia, now a police inspector, who
ensured full compliance with all procedural safeguards under SADA. These
included presence of a Gazetted Officer during the search and seizure, preparation
of detailed search and seizure memos, timely forensic examination of seized
contraband, proper documentation and chain of custody, and filing of a
well-documented charge sheet leading to conviction, the release mentions.
The
court acknowledged the diligence and legal clarity of the investigation, which
led to the accused being sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment with a
fine, the release mentions.
“This
conviction is a strong message to drug traffickers: Sikkim Police will act
decisively and legally to bring offenders to justice. The department is
committed to a drug-free Sikkim and urges citizens to continue supporting
enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities to the local police,”
states the release issued by the office of Gangtok district senior SP.
