“Clean Your Drain, Before the Rain” campaign in Gangtok

GANGTOK,  (IPR): The Urban Development Department (UDD), in collaboration with the Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) organised a campaign under the banner “Clean Your Drain, Before the Rain” at Bhanu Path Road, this morning.

The campaign's central aim is to heighten public awareness regarding the vital role of drain maintenance in preventing waterlogging and related issues, ahead of the impending monsoon season.

In his speech, Bhoj Raj Rai, minister for Urban Development and Food & Civil Supplies, emphasised the vital role of cleanliness, beginning with our own homes and extending to the localities. He appealed the citizens to cultivate a responsible mindset towards cleanliness. Subsequently, he led a pledge ceremony, wherein he administered a solemn commitment to uphold cleanliness, in the presence of esteemed ministers, senior officials, and members of the public.

Notably, four garbage trucks, sponsored through HUDCO's (Housing & Urban Development Corporation) CSR initiative, were formally handed over to the GMC, to boost the State's cleanliness efforts.

Consequently, the 'Clean Your Drain, Before the Rain' campaign commenced with a ceremonial cleaning of drains around Bhanu Path Road. Ministers, councillors, officials from UDD and GMC, volunteers from various Self Help Groups, volunteer students, and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan workers joined forces to mark the beginning of this initiative.
