4th NECDC Achievers’ Night: CM reaffirms commitment to strengthening cricket in NE

GANGTOK, (IPR): With immense pride and joy, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay attended the 4th North East Cricket Development Council (NECDC) Achievers’ Night, a grand celebration recognising excellence in cricket across the North Eastern region.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the event as more than a ceremonial function—calling it a celebration of talent, dedication, and the unifying power of sport in the culturally rich and diverse North East. He extended his heartiest congratulations to the achievers being honoured, acknowledging their contributions in bringing glory to their respective states and inspiring young athletes to pursue cricket with passion and purpose.

Highlighting the evolution of NECDC since its establishment in 2016, the Chief Minister applauded its pivotal role in achieving full BCCI membership for the six North Eastern States in 2018—Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim. This affiliation opened doors for regional teams to compete in prestigious national tournaments and marked a significant step forward in cricket development.

The council’s ongoing initiatives—such as inter-State tournaments, capacity-building programmes, and events like the Achievers’ Nite—have been instrumental in developing a culture of discipline, teamwork, and sporting excellence across the region, he noted.

Citing notable victories like Sikkim’s win over Rajasthan and Meghalaya’s triumph over Mumbai, the Chief Minister highlighted these as strong indicators of the region’s emerging cricketing talent and growing confidence.

Reflecting on his personal involvement, the Chief Minister shared his experience of leading the Sikkim Cricket Association as its president for nearly a decade. He recalled the early challenges faced due to limited resources and institutional support, and how collective determination and personal contributions kept the sport alive. Securing BCCI affiliation, he said, was one of the most significant milestones in that journey, made possible through unconditional commitment.

He expressed gratitude to the BCCI for recognizing their efforts and continuing to support the development of cricket in the region. He also acknowledged the contributions of State associations, coaches, support staff, and young athletes whose efforts have shaped the current cricketing landscape.

Reaffirming his commitment as the Chief Minister, he assured continued investment in sports infrastructure, talent development, and collaboration with NECDC to ensure no deserving player is left behind.

Concluding his address, the Chief Minister thanked the organisers for the opportunity to be part of this inspiring event and welcomed all attendees to the scenic Himalayan state of Sikkim. He urged everyone to carry forward the momentum with unity, purpose, and pride.
