GANGTOK, : The State-level Special Games for Divyangjan will be held at Khel
Gaon, Reshithang near Gangtok on April 25.
Around
120 participants selected from district-level competitions held during 2023-24
will compete in various events including 60m and 100m sprints, softball throw,
shot put and bocce.
The
State-level Special Games for Divyangjan is being conducted by Special Olympics
Bharat, Sikkim Chapter, in collaboration with State Sports department,
Education department, and Women, Child, Senior Citizens and Divyangjan Welfare
and Development department. The event is being supported by the Sikkim State
Disaster Management Authority and Sikkim Police.
The
president of Special Olympics Bharat, Sikkim Chapter, Kuber Sharma urged
everyone to come and witness the sporting event and help boost the morale of
the Divyangjan.
Assistant
commissioner-cum-nodal officer from Women, Child, Senior Citizens and
Divyangjan Welfare and Development department, PN Pradhan briefed the media
persons on the special schools under the department and the participants
selected for the games.
Co-ordinator-cum-nodal
officer from Education department, Chandra Bhandari shared details about the
schools where Divyangjan students are currently enrolled, along with the skill
development training being provided. She informed that more than 1,000 such
students are undergoing education in government schools across the State.
Students will arrive in Gangtok on April 24 and participate in the games on
April 25, accompanied by their special educators and parents.
Area
director of Special Olympics Bharat, GC Khanal acknowledged the continued
support of Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority and Sikkim Police and
urged the public to participate as spectators and extend their support to the
Divyangjan community.
Executive
members of Special Olympics Bharat, Sikkim Chapter were also present during the
press conference.
