GANGTOK, : Amba Secondary School and Lingdok Senior Secondary School win the
State-level inter-school girls’ and boys’ cricket tournament, respectively,
organised by Sikkim Cricket Association.
Amba
Secondary School clinched Murray Cup, the inter-school under-19 girls’ State
championship, while Lingdok Senior Secondary School lifted Kaluram Thirani Cup,
the inter-school under-16 boys’ State championship. Both finals were held on
Monday at Sikkim Cricket Ground, Mining.
In
the Murray Cup final, Amba Secondary School defeated Deorali Girls’ Senior
Secondary School by 64 runs. Batting first, Amba posted a total of 151-7 in 20
overs. In response, Deorali mustered only 86-9.
Meezang
Lepcha was named Player of the Match. She also received the Highest Scorer
award. Resma Dangal, who claimed the Highest Wicket-taker honour, was adjudged
Player of the Tournament.
In
the Kaluram Thirani Cup final, Lingdok Senior Secondary School beat Rhenock
Senior Secondary School by 39 runs. Lingdok batted first and scored 128-5 in 20
overs, while Rhenock were bowled out for 88 in 16 overs.
Rohit
Gautam took home the Player of the Match, Player of the Tournament, and Highest
Wicket-taker awards. Aryan Thapa finished as the Highest Scorer.
The
Kaluram Thirani Cup, introduced in 1987, had been discontinued for several
years.
SICA
president Tika Subba informed that the tournament has been revived this year
and will continue in the coming years to further promote the sport across the
State.
SICA
secretary Rinzing Namgyal Bhutia informed that students from government schools
across four districts participated in district-level competitions held last
year, with the winners advancing to the State-level tournament.
The
winning teams received Rs. 25,000 each, while the runners-up were awarded Rs.
15,000 each, along with trophies and medals.
