GYALSHING, (IPR): The finals for the 78th Independence Day Basketball
Tournament, 2024 held at Government Girl’s School Kyongsa, witnessed two final
matches today.
The event
was graced by Bhim Hang Limboo, minister, Buildings & Housing and Area MLA
accompanied by District Collector Yishey D Yongda, Tshering Sherpa SP, HoDs and
officials of various departments, teachers, students and public.
The first
match for Women’s Open was played between Queen Bees vs EMRS (A) team where
Queen Bees with a score of 46 baskets were the winners.
The
finalists in Men's Open were Demi Monks, Namchi vs Yetis, Tashiding, wherein
the latter with a score of 59 baskets emerged victorious.
Showcasing
exceptional skill and determination throughout the tournament, Tshering Wangyal
Bhutia (Yeti’s) was announced as Man of the Match, while the highest scorer was
Karma Gyaltsen Bhutia (Demi Monks).
In the
Women’s Open category, Tshering Eden Bhutia was the highest scorer (Queen Bees)
and player of the match was Nunah Subba (EMRS).
All the
trophies and prizes were distributed at a glittering ceremony by the chief guest
and District Collector.
The I-Day
basketball tournament was initiated by District Administration of Gyalshing in
the year 2022 with the aim of fostering local interest in the sport and this
year it has been the third consecutive year that it has been successfully
completed.
