GANGTOK, :
Cricket Association of Tathangchen (CAT) won their second Gangtok Premier
League title on Tuesday, defeating Shaft Cricket Club by nine wickets.
Chasing
a target of 125, CAT made small work of chase as they reached the target in
19.2 overs. Aamir Iqbal Bhutia scored an unbeaten 70 in the chase, while Roshan
Kumar Prasad scored 51 off 44 balls. The duo stitched an unbeaten partnership
of 124 runs after CAT encountered a shaky start with the early dismissal of
in-form batter Keshav Sharma in the opening over. That was, however, the only
success Shaft had.
Earlier,
Dinesh Kumar Dhobi’s fighting 34 off 25 deliveries helped Shaft post 124 in
27.3 overs after being reduced to 77-7 at one stage.
Leg-spinner
Tarun Sharma showcased his prowess, claiming three wickets for 23 runs. Pritam
Nirala, Abhishek Kumar and Bhim Luitel chipped in with two wickets each.
Aamir
was named the Player of the Match, while Keshav Sharma, who exhibited
all-around performance throughout the tournament, received the Player of the
Tournament award for amassing over 400 runs and claiming seven wickets.
The
final had government contractor Basu Sharma as the chief guest and Sikkim
Cricket Association (SICA) president Tika Subba as the guest of honour. Also
present were honorary secretary Rinzing Namgyal Bhutia, treasurer Mukesh
Agarwal and councillor Karma Jigme Namgyal from SICA, and Sikkim Armed Police
BSO Kamal Thapa.
Organized
by Shaft Cricket Club, the fifth edition of the Gangtok Premier League featured
16 teams with league matches kicking off on October 28 at the SAP Ground, at
