GANGTOK, (IPR): The Urban Development Department (UDD), in collaboration with
the Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) organised a campaign under the banner
“Clean Your Drain, Before the Rain” at Bhanu Path Road, this morning.
The
campaign's central aim is to heighten public awareness regarding the vital role
of drain maintenance in preventing waterlogging and related issues, ahead of
the impending monsoon season.
In
his speech, Bhoj Raj Rai, minister for Urban Development and Food & Civil
Supplies, emphasised the vital role of cleanliness, beginning with our own
homes and extending to the localities. He appealed the citizens to cultivate a
responsible mindset towards cleanliness. Subsequently, he led a pledge
ceremony, wherein he administered a solemn commitment to uphold cleanliness, in
the presence of esteemed ministers, senior officials, and members of the
public.
Notably,
four garbage trucks, sponsored through HUDCO's (Housing & Urban Development
Corporation) CSR initiative, were formally handed over to the GMC, to boost the
State's cleanliness efforts.
Consequently,
the 'Clean Your Drain, Before the Rain' campaign commenced with a ceremonial
cleaning of drains around Bhanu Path Road. Ministers, councillors, officials
from UDD and GMC, volunteers from various Self Help Groups, volunteer students,
and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan workers joined forces to mark the beginning of this
initiative.
Additional locations such as Deorali Bazaar (26- Arithang), Tadong Fly Over (25- Upper Tadong), Forest Check Post Chandmari (23- Syari) and ThapaGolaiSichey (28- Burtuk) will also commence cleanup activities under the chairmanship of respective MLAs.
