PAKYONG, (IPR): Celebrating the sport of bow and arrow, the 23rd Chief
Minister’s Compound Archery Gold Cup event enters its seventh day at Karthok
Archery Field, Pakyong today.
MLA-cum-Advisor
of Urban Development and Food and Civil Supplies, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa,
graced the occasion as the chief guest, alongside former chairman, Sikkim Khadi
Board, Chung Chung Bhutia as the guest of honour, accompanied by MLA cum
Advisor and the president of the Organising Committee, Pamin Lepcha.
The
day featured a thrilling archery match between PDAA (Pakyong) and Gyalsing
UNITED, wherein Gyalsing UNITED scored 87-05 and became victorious.
“The
Man of the Match” was accorded to Tashi Wangchuk Drukpa from Gyalsing UNITED
for his performance during the match.
In
recognition of the 50th anniversary of Sikkim's Statehood, the event is being
organised to promote the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and the Nasha Mukt Sikkim
Abhiyan. Likewise, the initiative is conducted by the Pakyong District Archery
Association in collaboration with the District Administration Centre (DAC),
Pakyong.
In
a colourful celebration of heritage, the spirit of traditional games of kite
flying and dart competitions is also being played.
Following
the events, the dignitaries took a stroll through the stalls, discovering the
traditional huts and exploring the archery displays. They further participated
and rekindled their connection with the traditional sport, bringing a charm to
the event.
Various
cultural performances were also showcased by Rolep GPU and Samsing GPU,
offering a glimpse of cultural heritage.
Also
in attendance were zilla adhakshya, panchayat members, officials from the
Pakyong District Archery Association and the general public.
