PAKYONG, (IPR): The ongoing 23rd Chief Minister’s Compound Archery Gold Cup
witnessed its first quarter-final match between Green Tara and Druk Yargey Todey
at Karthok Archery Field, Pakyong today.
Chairman
of SIMFED, Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia, graced the occasion as the chief guest and was
accompanied by Zilla Adhakshya, Laden Lhamu Bhutia.
The
Pakyong District Archery Association, in collaboration with the District
Administration Centre, Pakyong, is organising the event under the banner of
Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Nasha Mukt Sikkim Abhiyan.
In
the first quarter-final match, Green Tara defeated Druk Yargey Todey with a score
of 61-39.
Minima
Tshering Bhutia, Chimi from Green Tara, and Minima Bhutia from Druk Yargey Todey
were awarded the title of Man of the Match.
With
the aim of reviving and promoting traditional sports, the dart and kite flying
competitions are also simultaneously being played, uniting people of all ages
to join in the celebration.
Following
the sports events, the guests engaged in conversations with the health
officials and participated in health screenings. The health camp facility is
being conducted by the Health and Family Welfare department, Pakyong District,
providing free medical services to the attendees.
The
guests also visited the SHG stalls and traditional houses, each representing
its own story through unique architecture. Further, they also acknowledged the
skill and artistry involved in the crafting of the various archery equipment
which was on display at the archery exhibition stall.
Offering
a glimpse of the cultural heritage, dance performances were also showcased by
Barapathing and Yankten GPU.
It
is to be mentioned that the winner and the runners-up team of the tournament
would be rewarded with Rs 3 lakhs and Rs 2 lakhs, respectively.
Also
present were panchayat members, officials from the Pakyong District Archery
Association and the general public.
