PAKYONG, (IPR): MP Rajya Sabha and the chief patron of the Pakyong District
Archery Association, DT Lepcha, graced the second quarter-final match of the
23rd Chief Minister’s Compound Archery Gold Cup at Karthok Archery Field,
Pakyong today.
Accompanying
him were MLA cum Advisor and the president of the
Organising Committee, Pamin Lepcha; Zilla AdhakshyaLaden Lhamu Bhutia and
District Collector Pakyong, Rohan Agawane.
The
event, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of Sikkim's Statehood, is being
organised under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and the Nasha Mukt Sikkim
Abhiyan. It is being conducted by the Pakyong District Archery Association in
collaboration with the District Administration Centre (DAC), Pakyong.
The
second-quarter final match featuring Sochaygang GT and Gyalsing United
witnessed a victorious win for Sochaygang GT with a score of 48-36. The Man of
the Match title was accorded to Sangay Passang Dukpa for his performance.
To
celebrate the players spirit, they were awarded cash prizes in different
categories, such as First Karey, Thubzee, Fheri, Bull, Fheri Thubzee, and
Bhechu Karey Thubzee.
During
the event, Assistant Commissioner, Labour department, and vice president of
Pakyong District Archery Association, Tashi Pinsto Mapen, extended his gratitude
to MP Rajya Sabha, DT Lepcha, for his unwavering support and effort in upholding
the cultural treasure and establishing the organisation dedicated to the
promotion of traditional archery. He further highlighted the passion for
archery among the community, underscoring the significance of the age-old sport
that resonates with people of all age groups.
It
is to be mentioned that the traditional dart competition has also progressed to
the quarter-finals; the first game was between Denzong Boys (Luing) and
Sherap Chochen, with Denzong Boys emerging victorious with a score of 60-12.
Meanwhile, in the second match between Aku Phing Phing and Dawa Boys,
Aku Phing Phing secured a win with a score of 34-28.
Several
initiatives have also been set up by district departments, including PMJAY
registration camps, free health screenings, SHG stalls, displays of traditional
huts and cultural displays, and archery exhibitions featuring indigenous bows
and arrows.
The
guests also participated in the kite-flying session, releasing creatively
designed kites in the sky. Additionally, various cultural performances were
also showcased by Linkey, Parakha and Pachey Samsing GPUs.
Also
present were officials from various line departments, local gentry, panchayat
members and the general public.
