GANGTOK: The Sikkim government, under the leadership of Chief Minister PS
Golay, is organising the State-level celebration of International Women’s Day
2025 on March 8 at Saramsa Garden near Gangtok.
This
event is being held under the “Sikkim Inspires” initiative, a press release
informs.
The curtain-raiser
program will take place on March 7 at Chintan Bhawan, while the main event on
March 8 will be attended by Governor Om Prakash Mathur as the chief guest,
along with Chief Minister PS Golay as the guest of honour.
Preparations
for the event are in full swing with the preparatory meeting held on Thursday
led by Deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa.
It
was decided that volunteers from the SKM Nari and Yuva wings will actively
participate in organizing the event to ensure its smooth functioning. Various
aspects of the preparations were reviewed in the meeting.
The celebrations
on March 8 will feature exhibitions of local crafts and food stalls by
self-help groups from Sikkim, along with health stalls addressing women’s
health issues, mental health, and counseling services. There will also be legal
aid stalls and government department stalls highlighting various programs and
initiatives related to women’s empowerment. Additionally, the event will honor
and felicitate women achievers from Sikkim in recognition of their
contributions to different fields.
This
year’s International Women’s Day is particularly special as it is not only
being celebrated under the “Sikkim Inspires” initiative but also aligns with
the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s Statehood within India. On this occasion, the SKM
party warmly invites all women of Sikkim to come together and celebrate this
