GANGTOK: The Sikkim government, under the leadership of Chief Minister PS Golay, is organising the State-level celebration of International Women’s Day 2025 on March 8 at Saramsa Garden near Gangtok.

This event is being held under the “Sikkim Inspires” initiative, a press release informs.

The curtain-raiser program will take place on March 7 at Chintan Bhawan, while the main event on March 8 will be attended by Governor Om Prakash Mathur as the chief guest, along with Chief Minister PS Golay as the guest of honour.

Preparations for the event are in full swing with the preparatory meeting held on Thursday led by Deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa.

It was decided that volunteers from the SKM Nari and Yuva wings will actively participate in organizing the event to ensure its smooth functioning. Various aspects of the preparations were reviewed in the meeting.

The celebrations on March 8 will feature exhibitions of local crafts and food stalls by self-help groups from Sikkim, along with health stalls addressing women’s health issues, mental health, and counseling services. There will also be legal aid stalls and government department stalls highlighting various programs and initiatives related to women’s empowerment. Additionally, the event will honor and felicitate women achievers from Sikkim in recognition of their contributions to different fields.

This year’s International Women’s Day is particularly special as it is not only being celebrated under the “Sikkim Inspires” initiative but also aligns with the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s Statehood within India. On this occasion, the SKM party warmly invites all women of Sikkim to come together and celebrate this significant day, states the release from SKM press & publicity president Ranjana Pradhan.
