GANGTOK, :
Mayfair Spa Resort & Casino, near Ranipool, brought in the Christmas spirit
with a lively cake mixing ceremony, “A Merry Mix.”
The
ceremony, held annually to mark the start of the festive season, saw the
participation of Mayfair AVP Chandan Thakur, executive chef Niranjan Nayak, chef
Anand and staff members.
Highlighting
the essence of the ceremony, Chandan Thakur said the tradition is not just
about preparing the ingredients for Christmas cakes but also fosters communal
joy and togetherness.
“Cake
mixing is traditionally done to celebrate the advent of Christmas and the start
of winter festivities. It is considered a harbinger of good tidings and
happiness,” he expressed.
The
event featured a rich blend of ingredients including dried fruits such as
raisins, cranberries, cashews and apricots, all soaked in aromatic spices and
carefully selected liquors.
Chef
Niranjan Nayak emphasized the importance of using high-quality ingredients,
noting that over 100 kilograms of fruits were prepared to ensure the mixture
exuded festive warmth.
Bakery
chef Rajat and F&B head Zishan Ali informed that the cakes prepared from
this mix will be baked for Christmas eve and made available for both in-house
guests and purchase.
The
hotel guests, patrons and staff members also participated in the lively
ceremony.
Explaining
the cake preparation process, the team revealed that the mixture would be kept
for fermentation for approximately one month to achieve the perfect plum cake
flavour.
