GANGTOK,: Newly appointed 17th Mountain Division GOC Major General MS Rathore called on Governor Om Prakash Mathur at Raj Bhavan here on Monday. He was accompanied by his predecessor Major General Amit Kabtiyal, informs a Raj Bhavan press release.
During the courtesy call on, the Governor was briefed about the progress work of the Prerna Sthal which is being constructed in remembrance of the soldiers martyred in the October 2023 Teesta flood and discussed development initiatives for the aforementioned site by Raj Bhavan Sikkim.
The Governor also highlighted the remarkable contributions of Major General Sagat Singh of Rajasthan during the 1967 Indo-China War at Nathu La Pass.
The Governor specifically addressed the programs planned by the Government of Sikkim to commemorate its 50 years of Statehood. As Sikkim reaches this significant milestone, elaborate arrangements have been made to celebrate the Statehood in a grand and befitting manner.
The Governor commended Major General Amit Kabtiyal for his dedicated service during his tenure in Sikkim as GOC and lauded the Indian Army’s Black Cat Division for organizing the recent National Integration Tour which strengthened bonds of unity and patriotism, and stated that he would like to see such programs in the future.
In response, Major General Amit Kabtiyal expressed his gratitude to the Governor and the Government of Sikkim for their unwavering support and cooperation during his tenure in the State.
The Governor congratulated Major General MS Rathore on the assumption of his new charge as GoC of the 17th Mountain Division. Further, he extended his best wishes to Major General Kabtiyal for all his future endeavours.
They also discussed various important issues related to the security situation in the Himalayan State, the Raj Bhavan release mentions.
