Sichey Mavericks in semis of 23rd Chief Minister’s Compound Archery Gold Cup

PAKYONG,  (IPR): The ongoing 23rd Chief Minister’s Compound Archery Gold Cup featured its third quarter-final match between Sichey Mavericks and TAC Namchi on Sunday at Karthok Archery Field, Pakyong.

Lakpa Moktan, social worker, graced the occasion as the distinguished chief guest, accompanied by MLA cum Advisor and the president of the organising committee, Pamin Lepcha and Zilla Adhakshya Laden Lhamu Bhutia.

In recognition of the 50th anniversary of Sikkim's Statehood, the event is being organised to promote the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and the Nasha Mukt Sikkim Abhiyan. It is being conducted by the Pakyong District Archery Association in collaboration with the District Administration Centre (DAC), Pakyong.

Clinching its win at the third quarter-final match, Sichey Mavericks won with the score of 52-23 against TAC Namchi.

Gyalsten Drukpa, from Sichey Mavericks, was awarded the title of Man of the Match, for his performance.

Similarly, the traditional Dart or Hatey Kar competition, has also advanced into the second quarter-finals, the first day of the match was won by Gonam Pheba against Karling Boys with the score of 60-32. Likewise, the second match played between Latuk and Yawa Boys, Yawa Boys won with a score of 52-34.

Following the sports event, the dignitaries engaged in a kite-flying session, evoking their memories and bringing charm to the event. Additionally, they also visited the stall that showcased traditional archery equipment and participated in the health screenings organised by the Health and Family Welfare department.

The day also witnessed cultural performances from Pakyong Yankten GPU, Chalamthang Pacheykhani GPU and Barapathing GPU.

It is to be mentioned that the final match of the tournament is set to take place on April 27, and the winning team will be rewarded with Rs 3 lakh, while the runners-up will be awarded Rs 2 lakh, respectively.

Also present were JD, Sikkim Archery Association, Pujan Rai, local gentry, panchayat members and the general public.
