GANGTOK, :Sikkim Police on Sunday said
that three teams of cops have been deployed to raidmultiple locations in North
Bengal and New Delhi in an effortapprehendSamshongTamang, who has been accused of
making controversial remarks againstKhas community.
A case was registered against
him on February 3 following a complaint by the Akhil Sikkim
KhasChettriBahunKalyanSangh. The case was filed under sections 196(1), 299,
352, and 353(2) of theBharatiyaNyayaSanhita (BNS).
As per official statement from
DIGP (Gangtok Range), a notice was served to the accused through his family
members on February 4, directing him to appear before the investigating officer
at Sadar Police Station on February 7 at 10 am. However, Tamang failed to
comply with the directive, prompting authorities to seek a non-bailable warrant
from Chief Judicial Magistrate, Gangtok.
“As directed by the DGP, to
ensure swift action, three teams were formed under the supervision
of Gangtok SSP to apprehend the accused. These teams constituting of
the GangtokSSP, Gangtok SDPO, 3 police inspectors and multiple other ranks have
been conducting raids across North Bengal and New Delhi as part of
the ongoing operation,” the release states.
Tamang switched off his mobile
phone on February 2, immediately after the alleged crime. Despite this, the
release adds, authorities have gathered multiple leads, each of which is being
meticulously investigated.
