GANGTOK,: Tenzing Norbu Chettri of Gangtok won the inaugural intra-State snooker championship organised by Snooker Association of Sikkim (SAS) at The Q Club, at Deorali here. He defeated Titus Subba from Namchi five frames to two in the best of nine frames final.
The championship was held in the memory of Late Sita Devi Sharma and had a total of 55 participants from six districts.
The winner received Rs. 1.5 lakh along with trophy, while the runner-up received Rs. 75,000 and a trophy. Similarly, the semi-finalists received cash prizes of Rs. 25,000 each. Deepak Chettri from Gangtok also received a cash prize for the highest break.
SAS general secretary Asish Chettri informed that the championship was held to promote snooker in the State.
“The championship started on November 7 with an overwhelming participation from 55 snooker players from the State. The matches were exiting and sometimes breath-taking. The winners in most of the matches were decided with meagre point differences,” he said.
He expressed gratitude towards all the players that took part in the first ever intra-State snooker championship and assured to organise more such tournaments and ranking tournaments in the future. The top-10 players from the ranking tournament would get chance to represent State at the national level events, he added.
