West Point Sarathi Run 2024 held in Gangtok

GANGTOK, (IPR): Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the West Point Sarathi Run 2024 as the chief guest at the premises of West Point, Gangtok today. He was accompanied by Mrs Krishna Rai.

The West Point Sarathi 10 km Run is a marathon event dedicated to drivers of Sikkim and to uplift fitness in the State. The run started from West Point to Burtuk culminated at the main venue, was organised in the male and female categories. It was participated by runners from the State and also included international runners from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Nepal.

The event also included a 3-km Fun Run, which had the participation of the Chief Minister, Krishna Rai and their daughter Prakriya Tamang. The 3-km Fun Run was initiated from West Point to one lap of MG Marg and back to the initial point.

The run was attended by Speaker Arun Upreti, cabinet ministers, MLAs, Mayor GMC, and councillors. Celebrity runners Milind Soman and his spouse Ankita Konwar, Mira Rai, Amar Subba, Asha Phurba Tamang, running enthusiasts and locals were also a part of the event.

The Chief Minister conveyed his best wishes to the runners before the commencement of the run. In his brief address, he thanked the organizing committee and the participants for making this event possible. He appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee for inspiring youth to take part in the run. In his concluding remarks, he hoped that similar events such as Sarathi Run 2024 would be conducted shortly.

Later, the winners in various categories were awarded the medal and prize money by the chief guest.

Earlier, sports personalities, biker groups, running groups from Sikkim along Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) participants were also felicitated by the Chief Minister and his spouse.
