GANGTOK,: Food & Civil Supplies minister Bhoj Raj Rai on December 24 flagged-off a mountain biking race along with a motorcycle rally of Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club at MG Marg here.
The two events were held to mark the ‘National Consumer Day 2024’ with the theme of ‘Virtual Hearing & Digital Access to Consumer Justice’.
Also present at the flag-off ceremony was Sikkim State Food Commission chairman Dr. SK Rai, Food & Civil Supplies secretary Anil Raj Rai, joint director (legal metrology unit & consumer protection cell) Titus Basnet, joint controller (legal metrology unit & consumer protection cell) Jigme Kazi and officials.
LB Pradhan, additional controller, Legal Metrology Unit, Consumer Protection Cell under Food & Civil Supplies department, informed that the National Consumer Day is observed across the nation to general awareness among the consumers regarding their rights.
Similarly, there are redressal forums in the districts where the consumers can lodge complaints on any irregularities related to price, quality and quantity, and based on these complaints, action will be initiated, said Pradhan.
Numerous cases have been registered with the district commissions and the State commission and redressal has been done, said the additional controller. A good number of cases have been filed with the commissions which indicate a satisfactory level of consumer awareness in the State, he mentioned.
The 21-km mountain biking race covered Tashi View Point and Ganesh Tok before ending at Hanuman Tok. There were three categories – men’s, masters’ (35+) and women’s open while the youngest riders were also encouraged. The top three winners were presented with cash prizes and certificates. The youngest riders were felicitated with a cash honorarium while the top 10 riders received gift hampers.
The Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club riders took the awareness drive covering Gangtok, Ranipool and Singtam.
