BRO working overtime for restoring connectivity to North Sikkim

GANGTOK,: BRO Project Swastik is working overtime to restore connectivity to North Sikkim where landslides have washed away road stretches at multiple locations due to heavy rains.

Roads leading to Dikchu-Sangkhalang-Toong, Mangan-Sangkhalang, Singtham-Rangrang, and Rangrang-Toong have experienced multiple heavy slides and formation breaches, resulting in severing of connectivity to North Sikkim. Around 1200-1500 tourists are stranded in North Sikkim.

Situation became grave after collapse of newly constructed suspension bridge at Sangkhalang as entire connectivity to North Sikkim and Dzongu region was through this bridge.

Sensing the gravity of situation, brave workers of Border Roads Organization (BRO) accepted the challenges thrown by nature, a press release informs.

Since very first day, Project Swastik of BRO as first responder, swung into restoration efforts by mobilizing huge manpower and machinery to restore connectivity to North Sikkim at the earliest. Heavy earth moving equipment has been deployed on Dikchu-Sangkhalang-Toong road to restore connectivity at earliest.

Approximately 10 km of road has been cleared from Toong side towards Sangkhalang. Similarly, BRO has deployed its heavy machinery and started clearing slides on Gangtok-Chungthang road from Naga side. Connectivity between Naga to Lanthakhola has been restored. Efforts are being made by BRO to restore connectivity to North Sikkim via recently constructed modular bridge at Toong, the release mentions.
