“Sikkim Sudhar Sankalpa Yatra”, undertaken by Reform Call on 21st November
2022, marked a transformative chapter in the history of Sikkim's
socio-political landscape. As we commemorate its second anniversary on November

the people. Beginning in Mellidara, this two-month-long expedition was fuelled
by the idea that “Sikkim needed a new political movement”, one rooted in
reforms and driven by empathy for the common people. The Reform Call team
sought to build connections, listen to grievances, and engage in meaningful
dialogues with farmers, students, daily wage workers, retired personnel,
factory workers, Panchayat members, drivers and even sceptics from opposing
political factions.
It
was clear from the outset that this yatra aimed to do more than just spread
political rhetoric. It was about sowing the seeds of a people-centric political
ideology—a concept that would later culminate in the founding of the “Citizen
Action Party-Sikkim” on 26th January, 2023.
Overcoming
Challenges with Grit and Determination
The
journey was not without its challenges. At its very outset, party workers from
other political factions attempted to derail the momentum of the yatra by “erecting
barriers and shouting slogans”. However, the yatris, led by the resolute Shri
Ganesh K. Rai, broke through these obstacles with determination. Their

movement driven by sincerity and purpose.
Further
challenges arose as the yatra progressed. In the harsh terrains of North
Sikkim, the authorities-imposed restrictions on travel to Chungthang, Lachung,
and Lachen, forcing the team to cancel those segments. Despite these setbacks,
the team made their way to Dzongu, where they engaged in meaningful dialogues
with the Lepcha community, reaffirming their commitment to inclusivity and
representation.
The
yatra tested the endurance of its participants as they braved freezing nights
in tents, long hours on the road, and adverse weather conditions. Yet, these
hardships only strengthened their resolve, making the journey not just a
political expedition but a testament to their unwavering dedication to the
people of Sikkim.

Ganesh K. Rai and a Panchayat member from Temi Tarku. This exchange exemplified

traveling over 70 days, meeting countless individuals, and holding extensive
discussions, the Sikkim Sudhar Sankalpa Yatra culminated in the formation of
the Citizen Action Party-Sikkim on Republic Day, 26th January 2023,
in Melli, South Sikkim.
Citizen
Action Party- Sikkim was born out of the collective insights and aspirations
gathered during the yatra. Its political philosophy is firmly grounded in the
principles of reform, transparency, and people-centric governance. The party’s
creation was a direct response to the cries for change that echoed throughout
the yatra, making it a true embodiment of the people’s will.
Building
a Humble and People-Centric Leadership
The
Sikkim Sudhar Sankalpa Yatra transformed its participants, especially its
leaders, into more humble and people-centric individuals. The journey’s
hardships, combined with the heartfelt stories shared by the people of Sikkim,
