March 31 (IPR): Chief Minister Prem Singh
Tamang attended the closing ceremony of the six-day long platinum jubilee
celebrations of Government Secondary School, Dodak today.

Sherpa, Education minister Raju Basnet, Social Welfare minister Samdup Lepcha,
MLAs, Chief Minister’s political secretary Jacob Khaling,
Chief Minister’s press advisor C.P. Sharma, advisors, chairpersons,
secretaries, former-ministers, former MLAs, Zillapanchayats, panchayats,
district officials, teachers, students and public were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the
Chief Minister shared that the school was established long before Sikkim became
the 22nd State of India. He congratulated everyone and acknowledged their
efforts in preserving the school’s legacy and acknowledged the contributions of
different individuals for the establishment of the school, especially the land
donors.
He highlighted the importance
of preserving historical moments and urged teachers and students to document
such events for future reference.
Further, he complimented the
former students who all have achieved success, particularly those serving in
the Government of Sikkim. He expressed pride in their accomplishments and urged
the students to work hard to achieve their dreams.
The Chief Minister also
highlighted the various existing government schemes and initiatives for the
public.
Addressing the gathering, area
MLA M.N. Sherpa touched upon various aspects of the region's current State and
presented a list of pressing requirements. Among the demands he placed were the
construction of a multi-purpose community hall, repair of the major drinking
water supply system and improvements to the roads leading to Vrindavan.
Minister Raju Basnet emphasised
the historical significance of the school, mentioning it as one of the fortunate
institutions. He stated that Daramdin constituency will have its own university
in the future and encouraged public to support government initiatives aimed at fostering
overall development.
On the occasion, the land
donors and achievers of the school were felicitated.
As part of the celebration, an
intra-Sikkim men’s open football tournament football tournament was also held
with the final taking place today. Rumbuk Sports Association lifted the
winners’ trophy with 3-1 victory over DivyaJyoti Club, Siktam.
During the programme, celebration
committee president and school in-charge P.C.Dahal provided an overview of the
school’s history, highlighting its founding and the key individuals who
contributed to its establishment. He also acknowledged some of the school’s
notable achievers in various fields, including education sports and arts.
