Gangtok, (IPR): On the third day of the ongoing budget session of the Sikkim
Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay became visibly
emotional while addressing the House. Responding to the points raised by the
members during the budget discussion, the Chief Minister shared a deeply
personal moment, reflecting on the government’s commitment to education.
Speaking
passionately about the State government’s efforts in the education sector, he
highlighted how children from underprivileged families are now able to pursue
their dreams with the government’s support. He shared his own struggles,
revealing that he, too, had faced immense hardships in his pursuit of
education.
The
Chief Minister opened up about a lifelong dream—to pursue an MBA—but
heartbreakingly, financial constraints stood in the way. He recalled the moment
when, after completing his college education, he expressed his desire to
continue studying. His father, with a heavy heart, told him that the family
could no longer afford to support his education. As he recounted this memory in
the House, his voice trembled with emotion.
It
was this very experience, he said, that shaped his determination to ensure that
no child in Sikkim ever has to abandon their education due to financial
hardships. “No child’s dreams should be limited by their family’s economic
condition,” he declared. The State government, through Chief Minister’s
Education Assistance Scheme and other educational welfare schemes, is working
tirelessly to support children’s education so that they can chase their
aspirations without fear or obstacles.
His
heartfelt words resonated deeply, reflecting his personal commitment to
uplifting the youth of Sikkim through education.
