Collective leadership no longer exists in CAP: Kafley

GANGTOK, : LP Kafley, the former founding president of Citizen Action Party (CAP) Sikkim, today said it was the one-man leadership in the party that prompted him and his colleagues to resign from the CAT Sikkim.

“The CAP Sikkim’s constitution lays focus on collective leadership but this founding principle was violated making the party a single leadership operation which prompted us to resign,” said Kafley and his group at a press meet here on Monday.

“For collective leadership, there are supposed to be 10 working presidents but all the posts are vacant after the 2024 election. The party currently only has vice presidents making the party be led by the president alone. The vision and concept of collective leadership was completely diluted which caused us to resign from the party,” said the former president.

The other founding reformist principles of CAP Sikkim was the party being flagless and no sloganeering but lately sloganeering is rampant in the party and we are sure that soon the party will also have a flag system while diluting its constitution, said the former president.

Kafley contended that the opposition’s role does not lie in only opposing the government but also to extend support in areas of public interest.

“In case of ST status demand of the 12 left-out communities, the State government has taken initiatives involving all the stakeholders but CAP Sikkim has only been opposing. The issue of tribal status involves the majority of the State’s population and the CAP has to extend its support in the greater interest of the State instead of opposing and hindering the process,” said Kafley.

“The meeting held by the State government for the 12 left-out communities on ST status demand at Siliguri was questioned by the CAP Sikkim president. He also met a legislator of West Bengal which shows his double standard,” said Kafley.

I don’t see any development of the party under the current leadership, said Kafley.
